The island phases of School Cross Country, a project sponsored by the Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Sport, involve the participation of 1,740 students aged between 9 and 17.
 
The competition, which runs until January 17 on all islands, also counted on the participation of 92 teachers from 57 schools.
 
School Cross Country remains associated with the ProSucesso programme and is being held for the 12th consecutive year. The event aims, among other goals, to increase the offer of physical activities in school. It will also select the students representing the Azores in the national competition, which will take place in Torres Vedras on March 10 and 11.
 
The qualification of students for participation in the Regional Phase of School Cross Country to be held on Pico Island on February 11 will be based on the results of the island phases.
