29th School Sports Games feature participation of over 1,200 students

The 29th School Sports Games, whose motto is "JDE - Games of Excellence," take place in April and June. They will involve the participation of 1,219 students from 28 schools in the archipelago and a total 60 delegations: 16 in middle school, 15 in junior high school and 29 in secondary school.
 
Promoted by the Regional Directorate for Sport, the Games are developed through zonal phases in middle and junior high school levels and in island and inter-island phases in the secondary school level.
 
The inter-island phase will be held on Pico and Flores between April 27 and 30, after the organisation of the island phase of Futsal and Volleyball competitions in the secondary school level on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Pico.
 
For now, School Sports Games will continue with the zonal phases in the junior high school level from April 16 to 20. The competitions cover several sports such as Handball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Athletics and even an artistic activity. They will take place at Vila Franca do Campo School and Tomás de Borba Basic Education and Secondary Schools on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira, respectively.
 
The zonal phases in the middle school level will be held between May 7 and 11 at Ribeira Grande and Ponta Garça Basic Education Schools (São Miguel Island), Francisco Drummond Basic Education School (Terceira) and Lajes do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School (Pico).
 
Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Gymnastics, Athletics and Skating are the sports featured in this competition. Students included in the Special Education Scheme may participate in the Adapted Boccia activities.
