Traditional European tales travel to Central and Western Group islands

The second phase of the project "Tell me other tales - Assortment of stories from Europe" started today on Graciosa Island with three sessions directed to schools and an intergenerational session. The event takes place at Santa Cruz Municipal Library.

Promoted by the Office of the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations, the initiative will also cover the islands of São Jorge, Faial, Flores and Corvo during the first quarter of this year. There are also be several sessions for 2nd and 3rd form students as well as for the elderly attending Day Centres and Nursing Homes. Moreover, the initiative includes short stories sessions open to the population in general.

The island of São Jorge welcomes this project in February, with sessions taking place in Calheta, Topo and Velas.

In March, the island of Flores hosts the first sessions in the Western Group, which will be held in Lajes, Santa Cruz and Ponta Delgada, followed by Corvo Island. As for the latter island, the event includes sessions for schools and the elderly population, in addition to a short stories session.

Also in March, several sessions will take place on the island of Faial, where there will also be a short stories session.

The oral storytelling of traditional European tales will be carried out by Terceira-born actor and storyteller Valter Peres, who will be charge of promoting the projects on the nine islands of the archipelago.

The initiative "Tell me other tales - Assortment of stories from Europe" is one of the six projects developed under the programme "European Citizenship - Europe for the Azoreans 2017/2020." It takes place in non-formal education spaces in all regional municipalities, especially at municipal and regional libraries, as well as in other spaces designed for cultural promotion.

In 2017, a total of thirty sessions took place on the islands of Pico, Terceira, São Miguel and Santa Maria, which were addressed to the various target audiences of this project.

For further information about this project and its sessions, those who are interest may visit the Regional Government Portal at the address http://www.azores.gov.pt/Portal/pt/entidades/srapre/textoImagem/Conta-me_otros_contos.htm.
