Ponta Delgada, Angra do Heroísmo and Horta Public Libraries mark World Book and Copyright Day

The Regional Directorate for Culture celebrates the World Book and Copyright Day, which is marked on April 23. The Public Libraries and Regional Archives of Ponta Delgada, Luís da Silva Ribeiro in Angra do Heroísmo and João José da Graça in Horta will promote several initiatives.

On April 23, the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive promotes the show "The House of Tales," a project developed by the Teatro Alternativo group in two sessions for school groups.

The sessions will take place at 10 AM for preschool children and at 2 PM for elementary school children. Previous registration is required as each session has a maximum capacity for 75 children.

Departing from the book "Rafael and the Secret of Leonor" by Anik Le Ray, with illustrations by Rebecca Dautremer, the activity presents the story of a boy who inherits a library that hides a secret.

Under the artistic direction of Elsa Branco, "The House of the Tales" project features the performance of Joana de Carvalho with props, costumes and drawings by Alexandra Freudenthal and video editing by Paulo Porfírio.

On April 20, the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive in Angra do Heroísmo promotes a meeting with writer Valter Hugo Mãe in two sessions.

The first session takes place at 10:45 AM and is aimed at secondary school students enrolled at Jerónimo Emiliano de Andrade School. In turn, the second session takes place on the following day at 3 PM and is directed to all interested parties; both sessions are moderated by Paulo Matos.

The session scheduled for April 21 will be preceded and complemented by several activities, which will take place in the context of the meeting promoted by REDA - Open Digital Educational Resources.

The "Postcards of Japan" exhibition by Margarida Quinteiro will open at 2:30 PM and the lecture entitled "Tales of men and moons - Introduction to Japanese Cinema" by Miguel Patrício will be held at 4:30 PM. These activities are followed by the screening of the film "Ugetsu, Tales of Ugetsu" by Kenji Mizoguchi at 4:45 PM.

At 6:15 PM, there will be a talk with Valter Hugo Mãe and Miguel Patrício.

On Monday, April 23, the Angra do Heroísmo Library promotes the initiative "Talking to..." with writer and comedian Hélder Medeiros (Helfimed).

Also in the context of the celebrations of World Book Day, the João José da Graça Public Library and Regional Archive in Horta promotes a "Reading Marathon" on April 23 from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The initiative, addressed to all interested parties, counts on the special participation of Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School, Horta Basic Education School, Horta Vocational Training School, Senior University of Faial, Occupational Activity Centre of "Santa da Misericórdia" and the "Chá com Livros" Reading Community.

This Library also promotes a "Book Exhibition" highlighting authors who received the Nobel Prize for Literature, which will be open to the public between April 23 and 28.

In 1995, April 23 was proclaimed by UNESCO as World Book and Copyright Day. The date also marks the birth and death of William Shakespeare and the birth of Miguel de Cervantes.
