The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Pico Museum, opens an exhibition titled "Matriz Church of Lajes do Pico: from dream to reality" at the Whaling Museum in Lajes do Pico next Tuesday, August 1, at 9:30 PM.
 
This exhibition gathers photographs belonging to private entities, depicting the difficulties and achievements surrounding the Matriz Church of Lajes do Pico, an emblematic architectural work on the island. The initiative follows a challenge launched by Pico Museum.
 
The Matriz Church of Lajes do Pico is one of the buildings of greater relevance in terms of iconography and mythography, being the largest religious building of Pico Island.
 
It began to be built in the end of the 19th century, but its works were interrupted for over half a century; the opening took place on May 27, 1967.
 
The exhibition is held under the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the opening of this church. It will be open until October 1 from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 AM to 5:30 PM.
