The Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive in Angra do Heroísmo promotes next Saturday, January 7, the closing concert of the exhibition featuring a private collection of nativity scenes owned by Duarte Gonçalves da Rosa that was held under the Christmas season .
 
The concert begins at 5:30 PM and admission is free. It will present the "Responsórios In Nativitate Domini" (Christmas responsories) by Tomás de Borba. The event marks the beginning of the year that celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of this Terceira-born composer.
 
This piece is composed of eight movements in the sacred style defined by the "Motu Proprio Tra le sollisitude" of Pius X. According to it, sacred music must possess the important qualities of liturgy, namely the sanctity and delicacy of forms that give rise to another important feature - universality.
 
The eight short movements correspond to the eight responsories that were divided by the three nocturns of matins, which, in this case, are specific to Christmas liturgy: "Hodie nobis clelorum," "Hodie nobis de coelo," "Quem vidisti pastores," "O magnum mysterium," "Beata Dei genitrix," "Sancta et immaculata," "Beata viscera" and "Verbum caro."
 
The concert programme opens with two Christmas pieces, "Os Santos Reis Magos" and "Vilancete de Natal." They are part of the 40 pieces that make up the collection of Christmas songs and choir music composed by Tomás de Borba.
 
The vocal part will be performed by baritone Fabio Silveira, while the organ parts will be performed by Nélson Pereira.
 
Concluding the concert, the choir of Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library Choir will perform three pieces by Tomás Borba, "A Barca," "Sílvia" and "Descalça vai para a Fonte," featuring the works of Gil Vicente, Diogo Bernardes and Camões, respectively.
