Government requests suspension of works in protected area of Fajã de Cima

The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, has recently requested the immediate suspension of the demolition works of the garden walls of Fajã de Cima Village Council. The suspension notice has already been sent to Ponta Delgada City Hall.

The Government considers that the works carried out in the protection area of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos Church and the Fonte Bela family's Manor, both classified as buildings of public interest, do not comply with the provisions established in article 35 of the Regional Legislative Decree no.29/2004/A of August 24.

The site also contains a fountain which, although not classified, is part of the Azores Building Heritage Inventory, an initiative of the Regional Directorate for Culture. The fountain, dated from the 19th century, is built in plastered and whitewashed stone masonry, except for the socle, corners, cornice, basin, panel, stone plaque, coat of arms of the Portuguese crown and decorative elements, which are built in bare stone masonry.

Therefore, the Government has requested the immediate suspension of the works, which can only be carried out after favourable clearance from the Regional Director of Culture.
