Carlos Machado Museum promotes workshops under "Beyond landscape II" project

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Carlos Machado Museum and in partnership with several entities, promotes two workshops under the "Beyond landscape II" project to be held in Sete Cidades, S. Miguel Island, between August 26 and 28.

The second edition of the craft workshop "From Milk to Fresh Cheese" will take place on August 26 at "Casa do Povo" of Sete Cidades from 10:30 AM to 1 PM. This initiative aims to promote local knowledge and acknowledge the value of this community and its people.

This workshop is organised in partnership with Cresaçor, the Village Council and the "Casa do Povo." It is open to all those who are interested, but requires prior registration and the payment of three Euros per participant.

The initiative will be guided by Maria de Jesus Pavão Feliciano Costa, a native and resident of Sete Cidades. She has been making fresh cheese for many years, having produced a total of 600 per day, which were distributed by her husband, Januário Costa, in Ponta Delgada.

Maria de Jesus Costa is also an artisan, who dedicated herself to works on paper, fish scales, corn leaf, cloth, plastic and other materials.

Moreover, the educational and creative workshop on dyeing will also be held at "Casa do Povo" of Sete Cidades on August 28 between 11 AM and 4 PM.

In this workshop, participants will learn to apply dyeing techniques in the reuse of garments and other textile materials. The event is organised in partnership with Cresaçor, the Village Council, Padre José Cabral Lindo School and the Regional Centre for Handicrafts.

This initiative also intended to pay tribute to the community of Sete Cidades, particularly to washerwomen, an occupation that existed until the mid-20th century in this village located in the municipality of Ponta Delgada; it was carried by many local women and young girls.

Participation in this workshop, which has limited capacity and is directed audiences over six years, requires prior registration and the payment of three Euros per participant. Each participant should bring t-shirts and other textiles, preferably white or light-coloured.

This activity will be guided by Alice Borges, who completed the Course in Artistic-Textile Production at António Arroio School of Arts. Currently, she is attending the degree in Textile Design at the Chelsea College of Arts in London.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
