Arquipélago launches Open Call for Artist Residency "Salutem: à tua saúde"

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre, promotes a National Open Call for an artistic residency "SALUTEM: à tua Saúde" until January 8. The initiative is organised in partnership with Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada.
 
This residency is open to two national artists who will reside for three months on the island of São Miguel in 2017. They will be working between Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre and Divino Espírito Santo Hospital. The initiative aims to cross arts with medicine and science with knowledge, having as main scenario the contemporary society and without forgetting the reality and identity of the Azores.
 
The purpose of this residency is the turn the Contemporary Arts Centre, together with Divino Espírito Santo Hospital, a living laboratory of art, creation, health and innovation.
 
Hence, artists will be challenged to interact with a team of health professionals and researchers for the creation and development of an artistic work, having as reference the hospital, historical, social, cultural, economic and geographical context of the Azores.
 
This artistic activity culminates in June 2017 with an exhibition to be held at Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre under the curatorship of Carolina Grau.
 
The jury is composed of the following members: Fátima Marques Pereira, director of Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, Carolina Grau, Francisco Melo Bento, surgeon, Luís Melo, entrepreneur in the field of Information Technology, and Luísa Mota Vieira, researcher in Molecular Genetics and Pathology. The selected artists will be announced until December 31.
