Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre to host artistic residencies in July

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, promotes several activities in July, with special emphasis on the "Sonic Geometry" project and events organised under the "Walk&Talk" festival.

In the context of "Sonic Geometry," a project curated by Nuno Faria and Nicolau Tudela that has running in partnership with RTP since May, the Contemporary Arts Centre in Ribeira Grande will host, until July 2, the Artistic Residency by Pedro Tropa and Ricardo Jacinto.

This residency is followed by residencies promoted by Francisco Janes and Laetitia Morais, starting July 3, and by Miguel Leal and Pedro Tudela, starting July 18.

These artists will carry out research, creation and production works, which will be later added to the exhibition cycles held under the "Sonic Geometry" project.

Next month, Arquipélago will again partner with Walk&Talk by hosting a number of events organised within this arts festival, namely a piece of the Public Art circuit by artists Martin Howse and Jamie Allen - Shift Register, which will be installed at the Contemporary Arts Centre. Moreover, there will be two performances to take place at the Blackbox.

On July 6, André Uerba presents "Burn Time," a performance developed under the artistic residency taking at Archipelago since June 25, while "Turning Backs" by Lígia Soares with Rita Vilhena and Diogo Alvim will be presented on July 11.

In July, the "Summer at Arquipélago" activity returns this year under the motto "Double Fun."

This workshop runs for four days, from July 17 to 20. It is aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 12, who will develop activities inspired by the works displayed in "Exhibition - Index," such as painting, drawing with wires or the creation of flags.

Participants will also have the opportunity to give life to book characters and, at the end, to leave their opinion about these days of fun on video.

Further information is available at www.arquipelagocentrodeartes.azores.gov.pt.

In addition to this activity, the Educational Service of Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre also organises three activities that will be available by previous registration: "Challenge painting" for children aged between 2 and 6 years, "On cloth" for children aged between 6 and 12, and "Thinking Traditions" for children over 12 years.

Registrations for these and other activities promoted by the Educational Service should be made at the address www.arquipelagocentrodeartes.azores.gov.pt or emailed to [email protected].

On July 21, Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre will host "Black Sand Box Skate Challenge 18," a special stage of the Regional Skate Circuit, starting at 5:30 PM.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
