Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre to host "Emergence Açores" and Tremor festival in April

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre in Ribeira Grande, hosts in April the "Emergence Açores" and the Tremor Festival, in addition to promoting concerts, exhibitions and activities developed by the Library and the Educational Services.

On Tuesday, April 2, the Arquipélago Library marks the World Children's Book Day with "Stories in Squares," an activity aimed at children between 6 and 12 years.

Participants will learn how to build a set of cubes designed to create stories using the Roll-a-Story technique.

On Thursday, April 4, the "Land and Sea" concert will be held at the Blackbox at 9:30 PM. It brings together the Wind Orchestra composed of students enrolled in the Wind and Percussion Performance course at Dr. Flávio F. Pinto Resende Secondary School in Cinfães and the Military Band of the Azores.

The last event scheduled under the "Sonic Geometry" Performance Cycle will take place Saturday, April 6, with two concerts at the Blackbox: "Dinner - Sound Bath" by Anders Rhedin at 2:30 PM and "Tra il cristallo e il fumo” by Rapeciâz, featuring musicians Biagio Volandri, Gianna De Toni, Luís Couto and Luís Senra, at 3:30 PM.

The sixth edition of Tremor returns to Arquipélago between April 9 and 12. In this period, the Contemporary Arts Centre will host Artistic Residencies by Pedro Lucas, We Sea, Cristóvão Ferreira, Natalie Sharp, Tapperwear and Lieven Martens. On April 12, Arquipélago will host four concerts in different areas, starting at 10 PM.

The special Easter workshop "Grab the Egg" returns to Arquipélago between April 9 and 12 with different activities for younger audiences and ends, as usual, with an egg hunt in the cellars of the Contemporary Arts Centre.

On April 14, the Easter special activity "Exploring a Path," aimed at children from two and six year, takes place between 3 and 4:30 PM.

Arquipélago will host "Emergence Açores" from April 14 to 18. This event is promoted by the Regional Government with the aim of bringing together scientists, programmers, artists, among others, to communicate complex concepts in scientific research through the use of digital technologies.

On April 23, the Library marks, once again, the World Book Day with the activity "An Archipelago of Books" for students attending the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th forms as well as Day Centre users.

From a series of posters evoking produced by UNESCO evoking the celebration of this date, participants are invited to share stories through the creation of a poster using various materials.

The activity scheduled for the last Sunday of April will be inspired by a photography exhibition titled "Beyond what is seen" by Sérgio Aires. It is open to the public at Arquipélago and stems from a partnership with AFAA (Association of Amateur Photographers of the Azores).

In April, the three activities developed by the Educational Services of Arquipélago remain available upon previous registration. They are inspired by the works presented under the 3rd Sonic Geometry Exhibition Cycle: "Exploring a Path for children aged two to six years, "Creatures in Plasticine" for children aged six to 12 years, and "2nd Century Chimneys" for participants over 12 years.

Registrations for this and other activities promoted by the Educational Services should be made through the form available on the Arquipélago website at the email [email protected] or by telephone 296 270 130.

The programme of activities promoted by the Educational Services for 2018/2019 is also available for consultation on the website.

The 3rd and last cycle of "Sonic Geometry" may be visited until April 21. It brings together the artistic projects by the artistic duos Francisco Queimadela and Mariana Caló/Jonathan Uliel Saldanha and Pedro Tropa/Ricardo Jacinto in the Artistic Residencies promoted by Arquipélago as well as a selection of videos from the Audiovisual Archive of RTP.

In addition to this exhibition, the installation by architect Joaquim Morais Oliveira titled "Landmark," developed in Artistic Residence, may be also visited during the month of April.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
