Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre presents more than a dozen events in March

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago-Contemporary Arts Centre, promotes more than a dozen events in March, including initiatives under the "Sonic Geometry" Cycle, musical shows, exhibitions and activities organised by the Educational Services.
 
"Painting - From the Collection," a workshop developed by the Education Services, will be held every Saturday of March. Under this activity, a selected work will be highlighted each Saturday, serving as a basis for the activities to developed by participants through painting.
 
"Untitled" by João Queiroz will be the selected work for March 9, while Camouflage" by Gil Heitor Cortesão will be the highlighted work on March 16. In turn, participants will work from André Laranjinha's work "Untitled (Anona)" on March 23 and "Cinema Room" by Pedro Barateiro will be the selected painting for the last session on March 30.
 
These works will be on display at the Educational Service space during the month of March.
 
On March 9, Arquipélago opens Sérgio Aires's photography exhibition entitled "Beyond What You See" at 2:30 PM. Promoted in partnership with AFAA - Association of Amateur Photographers of the Azores, the exhibition features 20 black and white photographs.
 
Under the "Sonic Geometry" Cycle, curated by the organisers of Tremor, the Contemporary Arts Centre hosts the PMDS performance on the same day at the Blackbox at 9:30 PM. This is an environmental, techno and experimental music project featuring Pedro Sousa and Filipe Caetano.
 
On March 16, Arquipélago hosts the concert "A New History with Portuguese Music." It will bring together Nuno Pinto, a major national and international reference in clarinet performance, and Fundação Brasileira Philharmonic Band at the Blackbox at 9:30 PM.
 
As part of the "Sonic Geometry" Cycle programme, Arquipélago also receives HHY&The Macumbas on March 22. Led by Jonathan Saldanha, an artist featured in the 3rd "Sonic Geometry Cycle," the project also features João Pais Filipe, Brendan Hemsworth, Filipe Silva and Frankão (percussion) as well as André Rocha and Álvaro Almeida (brass instruments).
 
In turn, Ricardo Jacinto presents "Medusa" on March 29 and the Educational Service's programme for this Cycle includes a workshop on musical instruments made from recycled materials to be guided by Biagio Volandri and Gianna di Toni on March 31.
 
The workshop runs from 10 AM to 1 PM and from 2 to 4 PM. At the end of this activity, participants will present a performance at the Blackbox.

The three activities prepared by the Educational Services of Arquipélago are also available by appointment. They are inspired by the works featured in the 3rd "Sonic Geometry Exhibition" Exhibition Cycle: "Exploring a Path" for children aged between 2 and 6, "Creatures in Plasticine" for children aged between 6 and 12, and "22nd Century Chimneys" for children over 12 years.

The activities developed by the Educational Services for 2018/2019 are also available for consultation on the Arquipélago website.
 
The third and final cycle of "Sonic Geometry" will still run in March. It features the artistic projects by the artistic duos Francisco Queimadela and Mariana Caló/Jonathan Uliel Saldanha and Pedro Tropa/Ricardo Jacinto as well as a new selection of videos from the Audiovisual Archive of RTP; the latter will be on display at the Artistic Cells until April 21.
 
The "Landmark" installation by Architect Joaquim Morais Oliveira, developed in the Artistic Residency of September 2018, may be also visited in the Residencies space.
