Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre presents "A Horizon of Proximity"

The Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre opens the exhibition featuring the António Cachola Collection on October 16 at 9:30 PM. The event also includes a musical performance by DJ Mr. Wolf and Tape as well as the screening of a video by João Pedro Gomes.

Held under the title "A Horizon of Proximity: a topology told from the António Cachola Collection," the exhibition is curated by Sérgio Mah and can be visited until February 28, 2016.

This is the largest exhibition that has ever been organised in terms of the number of featured artists, number of displayed works and exhibition area. According to its curator, the collection is structured "in a sequence of exhibition segments that aim to explore the relations between different works and the architectural and symbolic circumstances of the exhibition spaces of Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre."

The exhibition features a significant number of artists who have excelled in the 1980s to the more recent generations, including artists born after the 1974 Revolution, thus presenting a wide a range of conceptual genres and attitudes, artistic devices and aesthetic movements.

According to Sérgio Mah, the António Cachola Collection, which began to be created in the first half of the 90s, has become "the most extensive, diverse and consistent private contemporary art collection in Portugal."

This exhibition includes works on deposit at the Évora -Contemporary Art Museum and Chiado - National Museum of Contemporary Art, making up a total of a hundred works by 38 artists.

Alexandre Conefrey, Alexandre Estrela, André Guedes, Augusto Alves da Silva, Bruno Pacheco, Carla Filipe, Dalila Gonçalves, Daniel Barroca, Diogo Pimentão, Fernanda Fragateiro, Francisco Tropa, Igor Jesus, Inês Botelho, João Leonardo, João Louro, João Onofre, João Maria Gusmão & Pedro Paiva, João Queiroz, João Tabarra, Jorge Molder, José Loureiro, José Pedro Croft, Julião Sarmento, Manuel Rosa, Miguel Ângelo Rocha, Nuno Sousa Vieira, Patrícia Garrido, Pedro Barateiro, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Pedro Calapez, Pedro Casqueiro, Rui Chafes, Rui Sanches, Rui Toscano, Rui Valério, Susanne Themlitz and Xana are the artists featured at this exhibition.
