Arquipélago- Contemporary Arts Centre to host eight events in January 2018

According to the schedule presented by the Regional Directorate for Culture, Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre located in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel Island, will host eight events next January.

From January 4 to 12, the Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre hosts the Artistic Residency with composer Luís Severo. On the last day, the event will feature a showcase at the Blackbox at 9:30 PM. Luís Severo is preparing songs for his third long-duration album.

On January 19, Tó Trips and Tiago Gomes will perform the show “On the Road by Jack Kerouac” at 9:30 PM.  The performance consists of a soundtrack for Jack Kerouac's novel by the same name. It features Tó Trips on guitar and various effects, Tiago Gomes, who will read excerpts from the book, and Raquel Castro will perform video-beat.

The individual exhibition titled as "Graça Costa Cabral - Works | 1982-2015," curated by Manuel Costa Cabral, will open on January 26. It features more than 100 works representing the artist's production in the fields of painting and sculpture between 1982 and 2015.

A native of São Miguel Island, Graça Costa Cabral (1939-2016) studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon. She co-founded Ar.Co, a project to which she dedicated herself as a teacher and a member of the Board. The exhibition will be open until April 8 and may be visited from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 AM and 6 PM.

Inspired by the artist's works, the Educational Service has created three workshop visits between January 26 and April 6. They are available for groups and schools by appointment. Moreover, there will be activities especially directed to families, designated as "The Last Sunday of Every Month," in months of January, February and March.

On January 28, Arquipélago will host the activity "Positive or negative?" in which participants will have the opportunity to make own piece in clay and paint its silhouette in a playful way. On February 25, this centre promotes the workshop visit "What is the weight of things?" in which participants will discover the heaviest and lightest art pieces by Graça Costa Cabral and create an object working on the illusion of weight. On March 25, the activity "From liquid to solid" invites participants to make moulds that will give life to objects created by the participants. For further information on these and other initiatives promoted by the Educational Service, those who are interested may consult the following address: arquipelagocentrodeartes.azores.gov.pt.

Also in January, the Arquipélago will continue to display the photography exhibition entitled "Depression through the Lens of a Photographer" by Association of Amateur Photographers of the Azores. It is open to the public on the 1st floor of Arquipélago's shop until January 21. In turn, the exhibition titled as "The Risible Enigma of Normal Life," curated by Mark Durden and David Campbell, may be visited until January 14.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events are available for consultation at the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the address www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
