Angra do Heroísmo Museum promotes initiatives on education for health

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, develops in January a series of initiatives on education for health, through the establishment of partnerships with local private entities who have agreed to take part in this project.

With this programme, the Angra do Heroísmo Museum reiterates its purpose of providing a practical and educational complement to the exhibitions that are open until the end of January.

The option for the areas of health, with special emphasis on eye oral health, features a photography exhibition of eye diseases "Visions | Interior of the Human Eye" at the Dacosta Room and the exhibition held under the title "Small World | Childhood between 1890 and 1950" at the Chapter Room; the latter portrays the emergence of the modern paradigm of childhood.

The programme also features an information session on refractive errors to be held Saturday, January 16, at 3 PM. The event will be complemented by a free eye screening that will be carried out by Optiangra.

During the information session held under this initiative, ophthalmologist João Pedro Cardoso will explain the origin and characteristics of refractive errors that affect the way light passes through the different structures of the interior of the human eye, affecting the sharpness of the image formed on the retina, which are the case of nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.

From January 22 to 29, there will be an eye screening targeted at school groups from 4 PM to 5:30 PM. In turn, between January 19 and 28, Medicangra will promote oral health information and screening sessions for children aged four to nine years.

Activities are free, but are subject to prior registration by the telephone number 295240800 or the email address [email protected].

The programme ends on January 30 with a paper delivered by Carla Vilas Boas, who will guide an introspective journey through the mouth, discovering the hidden beauty inside of the teeth.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
