Angra do Heroísmo Museum promotes "Conferences at Boa Nova Museum Centre"

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, starts the conference cycle designated as "Conferences at Boa Nova Museum Centre" next Wednesday, October 25, at the Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima Military History Centre at 8 PM.

The first conference of this cycle entitled "The Portuguese Expeditionary Corps: vector of technological innovation in armament" will be delivered by Jaime Regalado. He is an independent researcher in the area of Military History, an expert in weapons at the Technical Expertise Office of District Attorney General of Lisbon and consultant of the Military Museums of Lisbon and Porto.

In his lecture, Jaime Regalado will address how the new media and new technologies have conditioned the tactics and strategy of land, naval and air warfare during the first major world conflict. He also explores how the return of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps, with the armament used in Flanders and instructed in its use, was an important vector of modernisation of the Portuguese Metropolitan Army. Its repercussions extended until the military reforms of 1930 and, in some cases, until the World War II, when Portugal's accession to NATO and the beginning of the Cold War introduced new military paradigms.

The night programme promoted by the Angra do Heroísmo Museum promotes visits to the three exhibitions open to the public at that centre: "Men, Arms and War," "Memory and Novelty: Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima and Azorean Heritage" and "Boa Nova Royal Military Hospital." It also allows access to Uniforms, Light Weapons and Heavy Weapons collections, which are usually not available to the public.

Admission to the conference and visits is free.

The Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima Military History Centre, installed in the former Boa Nova Military Hospital, is home to the remarkable Military Collection of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, recently distinguished with APOM 2016 Award for Best Visiting Collection.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
