Ponta Delgada ,  June 21, 2019

"10 Fest Azores" projects regional gastronomy to "level of excellence," says Marta Guerreiro

The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stressed in Ponta Delgada the importance of "10 Azores Fest," considering that it projects Azorean gastronomy to a "level of excellence."

Marta Guerreiro spoke at the opening of "10 Fest - 10 Days, 10 Chefs.” On the occasion, she stressed that "this an ever-consolidated event that allows us to travel throughout the archipelago to the taste of contemporary flavours."

"If our nine islands are known for the diversity of their tourism products, our cuisine and our typical dishes are undoubtedly one of these products, providing an experience of immersion into our identity," stressed the Regional Secretary.

The Regional Secretary considered that the '10 Fest ', since 2012, "continues to surprise by the quality, interpretation or reinterpretation, boldness and diversity of the dishes presented." According to her, Azorean products "are highlighted at this event by the 10 chefs who come to this School to create unique sensations through the rediscovery of our cuisine."

"This was a great first day of sensations for the palate and we are looking forwards to the rest," said the government official.

The Secretary for Tourism also mentioned that "10 Fest" presents itself as "a true and complete gastronomic tourism offer" that provides technical learning "through the exchange of professionals, trainees and teachers, thus contributing to a joint reflection about Azorean cuisine and the potentialities of its updating."

"At the beginning of another edition, I must highlight the role of the Tourism and Hotel School for daring to create an event such as this one, highlighting our products, our gastronomy and the people who work every day in this very specific sector," stressed Marta Guerreiro.

The Regional Secretary reinforced the role of this institution "in one of the major challenges" of the Azores destination, which concerns the qualification of human resources. Accordingly, "training represents one of the greatest demands to further enhance the visibility of the Azores."

"If we want to provide unique moments to those who visit us, we need to continue raising our quality standards and learning how to leverage our resources," noted the Regional Secretary. In this regard, she stressed the importance of recognising the importance of professions linked to the tourism sector, where this School plays a key role.
