São Roque do Pico ,  January 10, 2020

First charging station for electric vehicles on Pico Island opened

The Regional Director for Energy opened Friday in São Roque do Pico the first charging station for electric vehicles on this island, which results from an ARAAL contract signed between the Regional Government and the Town Council.

On the occasion, Andreia Carreiro stressed that the implementation of electric mobility in the Azores should be a collaborative process, with municipalities also playing a major role in this goal due to their proximity to citizens.

The island of Pico will have a total of three charging stations for electric vehicles, one in each municipality, as part of the implementation of a public access charging network for electric vehicles in all the archipelago's municipalities. This Regional Government's initiative will  allow users to charge their vehicles whenever necessary.

This network already has 18 stations throughout the archipelago, among a total of 26, which may be consulted at http://www.azores.gov.pt/Gra/sreat-dre/menus/secundario/mobilidade/.

The Regional Director noted that electric vehicle users "will have to sign an agreement for an electric mobility tariff with an Electric Mobility Energy Supplier (CEME)" to begin using this network, which is part of MOBI.E.

Andreia Carreiro added that, after signing this contract, users will receive a card that "can be used at any electric charging station at regional and national level."

The list of Electric Mobility Energy Suppliers may be consulted on the MOBI.E website at www.mobie.pt.
