Decrease of the IRS benefits all the Azoreans

The vice president of the Regional Government reaffirmed, today, that the proposal of the Azorean Executive of lowering the IRS is going to benefit not only the people with lower incomes, but also all the Azorean taxpayers.

Sérgio Ávila explained Saturday that the informations diffused by the leader of the Democratic Socialist Party / Azores that criticize the decrease of 30 and 25 percent in the first and second levels of income, respectively, as not embracing the whole population “are untrue”.

For the governor, the declarations demonstrate “ignorance, irresponsibility and bad faith”, clarifying that the taxation of the IRS isn’t done by taxpayer levels, but by levels of income.

“When the income tax of IRS is reduced in the first two levels of income - and not of taxpayer -, it automatically includes, in order of final payment, the wholeness of the taxpayers of the Region, in other words, it doesn’t include only the taxpayers who have incomes that are situated in the first and second levels”.

All the Azoreans will be going to benefit of discount of IRS, in its component of collectable incomes, up to 7.017 euros, guaranteeing so “more justice and social equity in its distribution”.

As he said, the measure taken by the Regional Government for the formulation of the discount is going to bring “an added benefit” to the people with fewer income, but “all the other Azoreans will have a real discount in the final payment of IRS because this discount is over the total income, not being applied to each taxpayer only a tax of certain contributive category”.

The measure, it added the vice president, is supported in a study “with much seriousness and technical rigidity”, having been already foreseen the “economical and contributive effects” of the government proposal.

Sérgio Ávila still suggested that, after the implementation of this reduction, “the Azorean taxpayers will have a discount of IRS superior to 42 million euros, for the same income received by the citizens of the continent”.

“The Government, in order of IRS, will be going to receive, in the whole, less 42 million euros so that the Azoreans have more 42 million euros of income”, he told, remembering the already current measures of reduction of the fiscal load in the Region, such as the stabilization of the prices of fuels, the four million euros meant for the Complement for Acquisition of Medicines by the Old People (COMPAMID) and, as of next year, the 2,6 million euros for the Complement to the Child Benefit.
