Government's interventions improve maritime passenger transport on "Triangle" islands

The investment undertaken by the Government of the Azores in the Madelana Port, Pico island, will "completely change the way it handles the transport of passengers as well as the activities associated with this area." The statements were made by the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Luísa Schanderl, during a visit the construction works of the maritime passenger terminal of the Madalena Port.

According to Luísa Schanderl, the ongoing works, which are taking place within the estimated deadline, "will provide the Madalena port with better conditions for the transport of passengers, goods and vehicles." "This is a very important intervention for the 'Triangle' islands (Pico, Faial and S. Jorge) among other relevant interventions, including the recent opening of the passenger terminal in Horta. These works evidence the revolution led by the Azorean Government in the area of maritime transport."

The intervention carried out by the Regional Government is intended the redevelop the Madalena port area with the creation of a specific area for passengers, the adaptation of the terminal to shipyard, the improvement of the commercial area, with the works to reinforce the pier and the breakwater, and the construction of a fisheries centre.
