The nine teams that will represent one of each Azorean island in the celebrations of Europe Day, May 5, on Santa Maria have already been selected through the multimedia contest "Youngsters and the Future of Europe."

Launched earlier this year, this initiative involved the participation of 15 teams from 12 secondary and vocational training schools. Their original works, submitted in audio and video format, were assessed taking into account their originality, creativity, visual and communicative impact, and content accuracy.

The jury of the competition selected the best works to represent each of the Azores islands in the celebrations of Europe Day. The guest members of the jury were Berta Miúdo, university professor and Sofia Correia, social media manager and designer.

The selected teams are as follows: "Os RPV," composed of students Paulo Reis, Victor Rocha and Rui Pimentel and teacher Márcia Sousa, from Mouzinho da Silveira Basic Education and Secondary School, Corvo Island; "As Cubres," composed of students Catarina Nunes, Leonor Martins and Teresa Moreiras and teacher Maria Isabel Duarte, from Flores Basic Education and Secondary School; "Os Arriagas," composed of students Beatriz Garcia, José Rodrigo Freitas and Maria Lourenço e Castro and teacher Sandra Goulart, from Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School, Faial Island; "Os Foliões," composed of students André Garcia, Beatriz Macedo and Duarte Neves and teacher Marlene Maciel, from São Roque do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School.

The following teams were also selected to represent their islands: "Calheta Euroteam," composed of students Ana Zoé de Sousa, Mariana Fernandes and Renata Bettencourt and teacher Marília Lourenço, from São Jorge Island; "Real Política," composed of students Daniel Silva, Sara Arruda and Joana Ferraz and teacher Pedro Gonçalves, from Graciosa Basic Education and Secondary School; "Os Lilases," composed of students David Santos, Inês Brasil and Isabel Parreira and teacher Filipe Almeida, from Tomás de Borba Basic Education and Secondary School, Terceira Island; "Os Ilhéus," composed of students Maria Raposo, Nuno Botelho and Pedro Gaipo and teacher Ana Almeida from Ribeira Grande Secondary School, São Miguel; "Equipa de Resgate," composed of students Diana Resendes, Rafael Coelho and Tiago Andrade and teacher Rui Quadrado, from Santa Maria Basic Education and Secondary School.

The nine finalist teams will participate in the celebrations of Europe Day to be held on May 5 as well as in the final contest as well as in the contest "Europe Quiz - The Azores and the European Union." The winning team will be awarded a trip to Brussels that includes visits to EU institutions.

In addition to selecting the nine finalist teams, the jury chose the best work of the "Youngsters and the Future of Europe" contest and decided to award three honourable mentions, which will be announced during the celebrations of Europe Day.

The multimedia work contest results "Young People and the Future of Europe" and other information related to the Europe Day celebrations can be found on the official page of the Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation and on the Portal of the Government at the address http://www.azores.gov.pt/Portal/pt/entidades/pgra-ssrpre/textoImagem/Dia_da_Europa_2015.htm.
