Santa Maria School students win "Young people, Europe, the Future" multimedia contest

The "Cagarros Europeus" team of Santa Maria Basic Education and Secondary School was the winner of the "Young People, Europe and the Future" multimedia contest, an initiative promoted by the Regional Government under the celebrations of Europe Day 2019 and the "European Citizenship - Europe for Azoreans" programme.
 
The team composed of students Isabela Quadrado, João Raposo and Pedro Amaral and teacher Rui Quadrado came first place in this regional contest. In addition to their video being broadcast by RTP/Açores on Europe Day, they also won a trip to Brussels, which will include visits to European institutions and bodies as well as fifteen books for the school library.
 
The "Passageiros em Trânsito" team of Velas Basic Education and Secondary School from São Jorge Island was placed second. Composed of students Beatriz Reis, Filipe Azevedo and Rodrigo Silva and teacher João Silva, this team was awarded an Interjovem Card for each student and ten books for the school library.
 
The "Os Fuzeiros" team of Ribeira Grande Vocational Training School from São Miguel Island was placed third. The team composed of students Débora Ferreira, Telma Moniz and Rodrigo Furtado and teacher Nuno Gaudêncio also received an Interjovem Card for each student and five books for the school library.
 
The final phase of the contest also involved the participation of other two teams: the "Viajantes no Tempo" team of Mouzinho da Silveira Basic Education and Secondary School from Corvo Island, composed of students Alexandre Patrício, Sara Sacramento and Tanea Sacramento under the guidance of teacher Tânia Coelho, and the "Fenix" team of Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Angra do Heroísmo Vocational Training School composed of students Ana Bárbara Tavares, Maria de Fátima Ferreira and Vanessa Rocha and teacher Diana Vieira.
 
The jury of this multimedia contest was composed of the following members: Berta Miúdo, University of the Azores; Bruno Correia, RTP Açores; Fátima Senra Estrela, Regional Directorate for Youth; Paulo Pacheco, Office of the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations and Rogério Martins, Regional Directorate for European Affairs. It was responsible for assessing the best work of each island of the archipelago as well as the three best works at regional level.
 
The finalist winning works, one for each island, will also be posted on the Regional Government Portal, on the Regional Government's YouTube channel and on the "External Relations - Government of the Azores" Facebook page.
 
The multimedia contest on the theme "Young People, Europe and the Future" was directed to students up to the age of 20 enrolled in secondary and vocational training schools in the Region. It aims to involve citizens and, in particular, young people in European affairs by encouraging them to research and disseminate the impact of the European Union on the Azores, raising awareness for the importance of young people in the construction of Europe and promoting knowledge on the European Union.
