Regional Government promotes contest under Europe Day celebrations

Students attending secondary and vocational training schools in the archipelago may apply to the contest "Azores - Autonomy and Europe 1976/1986/2016" until April 8. This is an initiative of the Cabinet of the Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations.

The contest is included in the Europe Day celebrations, which will be marked on May 9. It aims to promote the reflection of Azorean youngsters about what has changed in the Region over the last four decades, the meaning of Autonomy and participation in the European project as well as its benefits and challenges it faces.

Students should participate in teams. Each team will be composed of three students and a teacher in charge. Participants must submit original and creative works in any media format (audio and/or image) with a maximum duration of 3 minutes.

The nine multimedia best works, one for each island, will select the nine finalist teams that will participate in the Europe Day celebrations to be held on São Jorge this year. The event will bring together youngsters from across the archipelago to take part in a series of leisure and training initiatives on the European Union.

The winning team of the Europe Day celebrations wins a trip to Brussels that includes visits to the institutions of the European Union. There will also be prizes for second and third places as   well as for the best media work. All finalist teams will receive participation prizes.

This contest is open to the participation of all youngsters up to 20 years by May 9, 2016, who are attending the 10th, 11th and 12th forms at regional secondary schools and the equivalent levels at vocational training schools.

Works may be sent via email to [email protected], by post to the Office of the Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations at Rua Prof.Alfredo Bensaúde, nº 6 r/c, 9500-700 Ponta Delgada, or delivered in person. In the two latter cases, works should be submitted on CD/DVD format.

The rules and further information on the contest and the celebration of Europe Day will be available at all secondary and vocational training schools in the archipelago and on the Regional Government Portal at the electronic address http://www.azores.gov.pt/Portal/pt/entidades/pgra-ssrpre/textoImagem/Dia_da_Europa_2016.htm.
