"Lands in the middle of the Sea" exhibition at Caloura Cultural Centre, São Miguel

The Government of the Azores opens the "Lands in the middle of the Sea" photography exhibition next Saturday, March 9, at Caloura Cultural Centre on São Miguel Island at 6 PM.

Curated by Tomaz Borba Vieira, the exhibition brings together works by various photographers of Azorean origin or residing in the Azores, who have an in-depth knowledge of the Region and some of them have already been distinguished with national and international awards.

This exhibition features photographs by António Araújo, Carlos Mendes, Eduardo Costa, Fernando Resendes, Luís Godinho, Nuno Sá, Pedro Silva, Pepe Brix, Rui Vieira and Sérgio Ávila.

"Lands in the middle of the Sea" is an exhibition that represents the "soul" of the culture, experiences and the landscapes of the nine islands of the archipelago, portraying the human and cultural side of the Azores. Each participating photographer presented two photographs depicting these themes, which also contain references to the sea.

This exhibition was already open to the public in Brussels at BOZAR - Centre des Beaux-Arts during the European Week of Regions and Municipalities from October 7 to 14.

The initiative is organised by the Office of the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations. It is now taking place in the Azores as part of the International Seminar on "Integration and Diversity" and the meeting of the Metropolis International Steering Committee to be held on São Miguel on March 8 and 9, respectively.

The exhibition will be open until April 19 at Caloura Cultural Centre. It may be visited from Monday to Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 1:30 to 5:30 PM.

In addition to this event, there will be several educational activities for different target audiences; participation is subject to prior appointment at the email [email protected].

"A talk with Carlos Brum Melo" on the theme "From the middle of the sea to the world: Learning to travel or travelling to learn," an activity directed to secondary and vocational training school students, will be held on March 12 at 10:30 AM.

"A talk with Gilberta Rocha" on the theme "On the other side of the sea - Azorean people on the North American continent," aimed at secondary school students, will be held on March 25 at 12:15.

This activity programme ends on April 3 at 3:30 PM with the organisation of an activity aimed at children attending Free Time Occupation Centres under the theme "Ready, Set, Go: The History of Emigration told to youngsters."
