Regional Government promotes multimedia contest "European Citizenship: An Azorean Perspective"

The Government of the Azores promotes until April 12 the organisation of a multimedia contest on "European Citizenship: An Azorean Perspective" addressed at secondary school and vocational training school students.

This initiative is part of the celebrations of the European Year of Citizens 2013 and is open to the participation of all youngsters up to 20 years attending 10th, 11th and 12th forms at secondary schools throughout the archipelago (and junior high school students from Corvo Basic Education School) or the equivalent levels at vocational training schools.

Each team will be composed of three students and a teacher in charge; there is no limit in the number of teams representing each school.

Students must submit original and creative works in any media format (audio and/or image) with a maximum duration of 3 minutes. The works in competition may include short films, videos, documentaries, interactive presentations, animations, cartoons, musical and theatrical performances, interactive games, among others.

The first phase of the contest takes place at an island level and is intended to select the nine finalist teams, one for each island, who will participate in the next phase.

The nine selected teams will participate in the celebrations of Europe Day as well as in the contest "Europe Quiz - The Azores and the European Union."

The winners will win a trip to Brussels which includes visits to EU institutions. Prizes will also be awarded to the teams placed in second and third as well as to the best multimedia work.

With this initiative, the Regional Government aims to encourage the interest and participation of Azorean students in activities and themes related to the European Union, promoting in 2013 the reflection on issues such as European citizenship and the goals for the European Year of Citizens.
