Regional Director for the Communities participates in International Metropolis Conference in Australia

The Regional Director for the Communities will take part in the International Metropolis Conference to be held in Sydney, Australia, between October 29 and November 2.

Paulo Teves will attend the event on behalf of the Azorean Government. He will have the opportunity to present and highlight the policies and initiatives implemented by the Azorean Government for migration and promotion of integration and cultural diversity.

In the context of his participation in the International Metropolis Conference, the Regional Director for Communities will also attend the meeting held by ISC - International Steering Committee on November 2 and 3. The event brings together several academic, governmental and community entities to discuss the challenges of migration worldwide.

The International Steering Committee (ISC) is the main decision-making body of the Metropolis organisation, an international network of research, development and policy advocacy on migration, diversity and integration. It comprises institutions from more than 30 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania.

The 2018 annual meeting will be focused on the theme "Global Migration in Turbulent Times," addressing topics such as migration and inequalities, religious diversity or migration dynamics in various parts of the world, among others.

This year's edition also features various activities, such as workshops and conferences, including the New Beginnings Festival. The event is dedicated to promoting cultural diversity through the various immigrant communities residing in Australia and will be attended by Paulo Teves.

The Azores are part of this network with the purpose of disseminating among their partners the importance of the Region in migratory management and the dynamics implemented in their diaspora as well as the efforts undertaken in the Region towards the integration of immigrants and the promotion of interculturality.

In the context of this visit, the Regional Director for the Communities visits the Portuguese Ethnographic Museum of Australia and meets with several leaders of entities and institutions representing the Portuguese community in Sydney.
