Paulo Teves highlights importance of sharing experiences to promote intergenerational relations

The Regional Director for Communities highlighted in Massachusetts, USA, the importance of "sharing experiences and the emigration routes of the Azorean People, especially in the context of the promotion of intergenerational relations."

Paulo Teves spoke Monday at the end of a visit to the East Coast of the United States, during which he visited two projects supported by the Government of the Azores that are being developed with retired emigrants. These projects are promoted by the association SER - Jobs for Progress, based in Fall River, and the Immigrant Assistance Center in New Bedford.

"Their knowledge and testimony of life have the power to stimulate our youth and make them aware of the values they should be proud of," the Regional Director defended, highlighting the role of these projects "in the maintenance of the Azorean traditions outside the archipelago."

At the meetings held with senior groups, Paulo Teves stressed that the implementation of social projects that "provide moments of socialisation of well-being among Azorean emigrants."

During this visit to the United States of America, the Regional Director also attended the celebrations of the Day of Portugal and Portuguese Heritage in Rhode Island.

In addition to participating in the opening ceremony of these celebrations, which took place at the State House, and in the Portuguese Heritage Festival, held at Kennedy Plaza in Providence, Paulo Teves also took part in the Day of Portugal Parade, also held in the city of Providence.

The Regional Director for Communities also visited the Lusitana Youth Club in the city of Cumberland, and met with the Board of the House of the Azores of New England.
