AMOSTRAM’ISSE - Azores Film Festival to be presented in the USA and Canada

The Government of the Azores promotes, in partnership with Burra de Milho Cultural Association and the support of SATA the presentation of AMOSTRAM’ISSE - Azores Film Festival in the USA and Canada from October 15-21.

The travelling of the Azores Film Festival, promoted by the Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Directorates for Communities and Youth, aims to promote the works by Azorean filmmakers as well as films shot in the Region. This initiative will travel to the province of Ontario, Canada, and to the U.S. states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Organised by the Burra de Milho Association, the sessions are intended to disseminate new projects developed by the Autonomous Region of the Azores in various areas. This initiative recognises the importance of promoting and encouraging creativity to achieve harmonious social and cultural development. It also aims to protect the memories and cultural manifestations that represent the cultural identity of the Azores.

With this itinerant exhibition, AMOSTRAM’ISSE reaches Azorean emigrant communities in Canada and the United States; however, the event also addressed at other audiences of different nationalities and backgrounds, particularly through university institutions.

After being displayed in Angra do Heroísmo, Horta, Ponta Delgada, Lisbon and Porto, this film exhibition will be presented at the Universities of York and Toronto, Canada, on October 15 and 16, respectively.

In the United States of America, there are scheduled sessions at the headquarters of Friends of Terceira Group in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on October 19; University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and at the House of the Azores of New England, Fall River, on October; Bristol Community College, Fall River, October 21.

"Alabote" by João Botelho and João Garcia, "50 Pesos Argentinos" by Bernardo Cabral, "Banana do Pico" byLuís Bicudo, "Montar a Tenda" by Montserrat Ciges, and "Deportado" by Natalie Mansoux are some of the films that will be exhibited in the itinerant Azores Film Festival in the USA and Canada.
