Angra do Heroísmo ,  April 30, 2018

The greater the youth mobility between islands, the greater the regional cohesion, says Berto Messias

The Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs stated in Angra do Heroísmo that "Interjovem" Card is an "important passport for youth mobility," being also a "strong tool for regional cohesion."

"The Regional Government intends that Azorean young people, who will build what the Azores will be in the next 50 years, should be increasingly aware of the reality of each of our islands. Accordingly, they will be better informed, aware and greatly involved in the process of building a united and cohesive Azores as a Region," stated Berto Messias. He spoke at the presentation of "Interjovem" 2018 Card.

"Regional cohesion is also built based on tools that foster and promote internal mobility. Hence, they will counteract possible divisions, which will always be negative for the balanced and sustainable regional development project that we have put into practice through the public policies we pursue," added the government official.

For Berto Messias, "the greater the youth mobility between the islands of the Azores, the closer and more cohesive the Region will be in the future."

"Young people who travel to other islands have another perception of that island and acquire an in-depth knowledge about the reality of that island. Naturally, they will be more predisposed to perceive the specific characteristics of each island," said the Regional Secretary.

Therefore, Berto Messias emphasised that the "Interjovem" Card "is much more than a passport for young people to attend several summer festivals taking place in the Region."

"In addition to being made available for purchase through a smartphone application, this year's card also offers discounts on airfares and sea travel, network of youth hostels as well as free admission to interpretation centres, museums and natural parks in the Region. Moreover, it also features several discounts from partners in various sectors throughout the archipelago," thus "allowing young people to enjoy "the experiences and emotions that all islands can provide," says the Secretary Regional.

The "Interjovem" Card is valid for a period of one year from its acquisition and costs 40 Euros. It is directed to young people aged between 13 and 30.
