Angra do Heroísmo ,  February 14, 2018

Regional Government supports National Meeting of Azorean Students

The Government of the Azores supports the organisation of the second edition of the National Meeting of Azorean Students to take place in Lisbon in early March, announced the Regional Assistant Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs today in Angra do Heroísmo.

Berto Messias highlighted the "importance of this type of initiative." In this regard, he considered to be "a contribution to better respond to one of the most important challenges we have: promoting the return of Azorean young people studying outside the Region so that they may settle here and, thus, contribute to the construction of our collective future."

The government official spoke at the end of a meeting with the coordinator of the event's organising committee, stressing that this type of event has two major advantages." Firstly, he pointed out "the promotion of the Region and the public support tools available for employment creation, companies and new opportunities among participants. It also promotes the sharing of experience with people and personalities who have used these tools and have succeeded in achieving their goals."

"Secondly, this event is organised based on a youth to youth dynamics. It is organised by young people in the way they think it is best, focusing on with the dynamics and concerns they wish to address as well as on the questions they want to have an answer, without any kind of constraint," said the government official.

For Berto Messias, "this values their participation, their proactivity and the promotion of debates and experiences that are, in fact, an asset for their life path and their curricular enrichment."

"We join this event, in partnership with the Azores Youth Association - UPA - United for the Azores, hoping that, after last year's event and this second edition, it will be possible to create a regular event and with even more participants," said the Regional Secretary.

The meeting takes place during the first weekend of March. The event will include a series of training workshops and panel on various topics, such as entrepreneurship, accessibility, economic and social development, and the recognition of young women's role in the construction of the future of the Azores.
