Clarification from the Regional Government

In view of the press release from the PSD Parliamentary Group on the alleged fact that the "Government hinders" the work of the Working Group of the Legislative Assembly of the Azores responsible for assessing the impact of the damage caused by Hurricane Lorenzo, the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs considers it necessary to clarify the following:

- It is stated in the press release that the documentation was requested from the Government on February 17.

Such information does not correspond to the truth.

The Government received two letters requesting a very extensive set of documentation on this matter, the first on April 9 and the second on April 15.

In neither case was any deadline indicated for the submission of the said documentation;
- The requested documentation and information are being collected and systematised to be sent to the Legislative Assembly of the Azores.

Most of them are already ready to be sent, but we chose to send everything at the same time, as we believe it will facilitate the work of the members of the Regional Assembly, who will be able to plan their work based on all the information available;

- We also point out the fact that the Working Group in question has already heard the Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works for almost four hours at a meeting intended to clarify the information requested on the areas under her responsibility;

In view of the above, the statements on the alleged attempts of the Regional Government to undermine the work of the Working Group of the Committee on Economic Affairs are unfair, unfounded and far from the reality;

- The Government collaborates with this Working Group, as it does with any Parliamentary Committee and with the Parliament itself, in accordance with the institutional cooperation that has always guided its actions. It has always scrupulously complied with the law and the rules of transparency and information provision to the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
