Walk&Talk Festival "has fostered critical debate" through art, says Regional Director for Youth

The Regional Director for Youth stated today that the Walk&Talk Festival has not only "managed to bring new audiences closer to artistic fruition and the democratic opening of arts," but has also "fostered critical debate," through the organisation of forums as well as the promotion of awareness and interpretation of social, cultural and political issues.

Pilar Damião spoke at the presentation of the 6th Walk&Talk Festival, which runs from July 15 to July 31, stressing that the event "has played a leading role in the dissemination and opening of public spaces."

In her speech, she also stressed the "regional dimension" of this sixth edition of the festival, which expands this year, for the first time, to the island of Terceira (September 23 - October 1).

Organised by ANDA&FALA Cultural Interpretation association, the Walk&Talk Festival is an event that addresses contemporary art in an informal way, thus placing the Azores in the map of creative regions.

The Walk & Talk festival exists as a space for the creation and display of projects and artists in the fields of fine, visual and performing arts, developing and enhancing an Azorean creative ecosystem.

This festival becomes a laboratory in a privileged space for the presentation and public discussion of arts, public spaces as well as the role of structures, actors and artists.

The main goal of this initiative is to encourage artistic creation, based on the concept of artists as ambassadors of experience, the local community as a prescriber and the territory as a working context.

The initiative aims, above all, to stimulate the openness of society to new cultural realities, reflect on the role of individuals and entities in contemporary society, question the concepts of ethics, morals and culture, promote Azorean cultural heritage by creating an urban art itinerary and disseminate the Azores.

The sixth edition of this festival brings together more than 90 artists, collective entities, curators, speakers and experts in an innovative and experimental laboratory, which will located in the public space. The initiative will cover several urban structures with a programme that combines artistic residencies, installations, murals, performances, concerts, workshops and seminars.
