The São Jorge Youth Hostel is ranked as the best youth hostel in Portugal by Hostelling International in a total of 51 national units; it ranks 48th in the 2192 youth hostels that make up the international network.

Youth hostels are classified by the customers of this international network. Classification criteria comprise a series of parameters ranging from location and comfort to service quality.

One should recall that the integration of regional youth hostels in the Hostelling International network took place in November 2010; the network generates over one million and five hundred thousand overnight stays per year in over 2000 hostels. The initiative meets the expectations of the internationalisation strategy defined by the Regional Government for these hotel units. As a result of this integration, the visibility of youth hostels in the tourism market enhanced, particularly in the area of youth tourism, and the number of foreign guests also increased, representing nearly 30% of annual overnight stays.

Moreover, another 4 units of the regional network of youth hostels are ranked in the top 20 of national youth hostels.
