Angra do Heroísmo ,  April 12, 2012

Programme helps youngsters to cope with crisis

The programme "Educa-te com a crise" (Learn yourself with the Crisis) was presented in Angra do Heroísmo today. This project was developed by AJITER - Terceira Youth Association with the technical support of the Regional Government.

This is a project funded by the European Union under the programme "Youth in Action," in which AJITER aims to involve 200 youngsters aged between 15 and 25 years.

The project aims to provide youngsters with the skills for an optimised and rational use of personal resources in times of crisis, with special emphasis on day-to-day saving methods and ways to avoid over-indebtedness and financial "asphyxia."

Attending the press conference, the Regional Director for Youth acknowledged the merit to the project, which is part of a regional plan for consumer education, already in progress.

Moreover, Bruno Pacheco said that "the new approach," defined by the Azorean Government in 2009, for the application for EU commission youth programmes "has already approved 14 projects" in several areas. The approved projects make up a global investment over 300 thousand Euros and we estimate an indirect investment of nearly half a million Euros."

These figures "are very interesting taking into account the reality of the youth associations" in the Azores since the archipelago has a population of 245 thousand inhabitants competing "with 400 million" Europeans.

Bruno Pacheco also emphasised "the effort undertaken by our youth associations in order to continue this initiative."
