LABJOVEM Exhibition with international dimension, says Regional Director for Youth

The Regional Director for Youth said today in Ribeira Grande that the Labjovem Exhibition "will be showcased in the Azores, Lisbon and, for the first time, in Edinburgh," Scotland, thus acquiring an international dimension.

Speaking at the presentation of the exhibition, the partners and the juries that will make up this year's edition of Labjovem - Young Creators Competition, Pilar Damião pointed out that "after five editions, this programme has acquired an international dimension, ensuring the presence of the winners in each category in competition at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016.

According to Pilar Damião, the display of the artistic works of Azorean young people in this festival is "a crucial aspect in this whole creative process."

"It is important for the Region that young people have the opportunity to present their creative and experimental work in several international circuits," stressed the government official. According to her, the Regional Directorate for Youth has already established partnerships with several entities to ensure the presence of winners at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, namely EDA, Banif, NOS Azores, Teatro Micaelense and Açoreana Seguros.

For the Regional Director, "the involvement of partners reflects, on the one hand, the relevance of cultural entrepreneurship in the community and in economic and business community in particular and, on the other hand, the projection and dissemination of the artistic projects developed by Azorean young creators."

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which takes place on August 5-29, is considered the world's largest arts festival. This year's edition featured more than five thousand performances in 313 venues.

The jury that will evaluate the works submitted to the 5th edition of LABJOVEM is composed of the following members: Carlos Marques (Architecture), Maria José Cavaco (Visual Arts), Cláudia Galhós (Performing Arts), Susana Bettencourt (Fashion Design), António Araújo (Graphic Design ), Rita Carmo (Photography), Alice Geirinhas (Illustration and Comics), Leonor Sampaio (Literature), Luís Varatojo (Music), Tiago Melo Bento (Video) and Sofia de Medeiros (Ceramic Design), among others.

The LABJOVEM competition - Young Creators of the Azores a project developed the Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Youth in partnership with "Burra de Milho" Association, which aims to encourage and promote young artists from different artistic areas, serving as a platform for a new generation of Azorean artists.

The initiative is aimed at young people aged up to 35 years. The projects can be presented in the areas of Architecture, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration and Comics, Literature, Video, Music and, for the first time, Ceramic Design.

The deadline for applications runs until November 30. Those who are interested may submit their applications at the address http://www.labjovem.pt
