Ponta Delgada ,  January 25, 2012

Government of the Azores supports innovative project in the Region

Another innovative initiative was presented yesterday in Ponta Delgada at the "Loja Açores" - the Azores discount Book. This project was developed by Francisco Câmara.

The Azores Discount Book is the result of a partnership between Pineapple and the promoters of the latest and most innovative offers in the regional hotel, restaurant and animation sectors; it aims to create a quality roadmap of the Azores by promoting and providing the best of the Azores.

For the Regional Director for Youth, Bruno Pacheco, the support to such initiatives meets the strategies developed by the Government of the Azores in the area of Youth Tourism and Entrepreneurship.

Bruno Pacheco said that "besides being innovative in the Region, this product also focuses on the target of youth hostels."

With the number of youth hostels rising in the Azores, the Regional Director said that "adding value to the offer" is our current goal. That is, we intend to enhance the existing offer so that youth hostels may ensure their sustainability and promote new experiences, not just to Azorean youngsters, but also to those from Mainland Portugal and even to foreign youngsters who visit us. By "associating the Azores Book Discount to the Interjovem Card and to Youth Hostels, youngsters will be provided with privileged conditions to visit Azores at affordable prices," said Bruno Pacheco.

The revitalisation of the regional market, low-cost investment and the increase of purchasing power, particularly among youngsters, were the main reasons that led to the creation of this book, explained Francisco Câmara.

The Azorean young entrepreneur said that, given the current context, the Azores Discount Book is a far-reaching product that is addressed at all age groups and, therefore, is a good investment.

The first edition of the Azores Discount Book contains 50 discount vouchers for hotels, restaurants, health & wellness, tourist animation companies, gyms, golf courses, bars and music schools on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira.

Francisco Câmara stated that this initiative is intended to be extended to other islands in the short-term. Initially, the project will be implemented on the central group islands and then on the remaining islands.

The Azores Discount Book offers more than two thousand Euros in discounts and will be on sale, among other places, at the "Loja Açores" in Ponta Delgada.
