Calheta, São Jorge ,  February 19, 2018

Entrepreneurial Education Programme already reaches 48 schools in the Azores, says Regional Director for Youth

The Regional Director for Youth stressed today the Entrepreneurial Entrepreneurship Programme "reaches this year 48 Azorean schools, covering 3000 students," which are very "positive figures."

Lúcio Rodrigues spoke at Calheta Basic Education and Secondary School on São Jorge on the sidelines of a follow-up visit to the eight edition of the "Entrepreneurial Education: the Path to Success" programme.

Lúcio Rodrigues highlighted "the enthusiasm and the involvement in this project, not just on the part of students but also on the part of teachers themselves." In this regard, he reiterated that this is a programme that "benefits students from all socioeconomic backgrounds as teaches young people to think 'out of the box' by creating opportunities and ensuring social justice. It inspires confidence for young people and is the basis for the future growth of Azorean economy."

"In this programme, students are encouraged to think 'out of the box,' to fail and to persist," stressed the Regional Director. According to him, these are "inspiring experiences that instil in young people the desire to become more proactive, creative, inventive and innovative."

Lúcio Rodrigues pointed out that the "Entrepreneurial Education: the Path to Success" programme has covered "more than 19 thousand students and 60 schools in the archipelago over eight editions, having provided entrepreneurial training to more than 300 teachers; it represents an investment that already surpassed 500 thousand Euros."

"We are working to stimulate young people in order to strengthen their professional skills, improve their employability and promote greater civic engagement," said the government official.

"These are our goals and we will continue to work towards them," said the Regional Director.

Lúcio Rodrigues will visit this week nine schools on the islands of São Jorge, Pico and Faial under the "Entrepreneurial Education: the Path to Success" programme, a Regional Government's initiative implemented by the Regional Directorates for Youth and Education.
