Government collaborates with Lagoa Lions Club

The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry will collaborate with the Board of Lagoa Lions Club in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of this institution by providing a space within the Chã da Macela Recreational Forest Reserve. The celebrations include the symbolic planting of Azorean endemic trees.

The planting of an endemic tree for each year of existence of Lagoa Lions Club will take place on October 19 at 11:30 AM. The Government of the Azores joins this event through the promotion of recreational forest reserves and endemic woody plants grown with respect for biodiversity in regional seedling nurseries.

In the context of these celebrations, a guided tour will be offered to the Hunting Dissemination Centre at this Forest Reserve.

Currently, there are 27 recreational forest reserves where, in addition to annual maintenance, several investments have been carried out in infrastructures in recent years. In fact, these spaces are of significant social relevance as they represent a great potential in disseminating the importance of forests and their values.

Six new recreational forest reserves were created in recent years and several interventions, including renewal and recovery works, were carried out in 18 reserves.

These works included the improvement of sanitary facilities, installation/renewal of playgrounds, creation of areas for outdoor sports and sheltered picnic areas.

The Government has also adapted various spaces to the installation of forest dissemination centres, including the Caldeira Recreational Forest Centre on Graciosa island and the Dissemination Centres of the Endemic Species Seedling Nurseries of Fontinhas, Terceira island, and Nordeste; the latter was opened recently.
