The Rocha dos Bordões, located on the island of Flores, is a natural monument that is about 570 thousand years. It is several hundred metres long and its columns have a regular and geometrical shape of about 20 metres high. The "Montanheiros" association is climbing this cliff as part of a cleaning operation determined by the Government of the Azores.

This intervention, decided by the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and the Environment, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, arises from the need to clean the sediment and plant deposits that accumulate between the columns of this classified geosite.

In addition to causing damages in the structure, these deposits are also a factor of visual pollution in the imposing natural sculpture that is also an iconic tourist site of Flores Island; the latter is classified as Biosphere Reserve.
