The Regional Secretary for the Environment and the Sea highlighted in Ponta Delgada on Thursday the importance and benefit for the Region if the Legislative Assembly of the Azores approves the legislation on the monitoring and reporting of energy consumption of regional and local administrations in the Azores.

Álamo Meneses was heard on Thursday morning by the Economy Commission of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores and stressed that the legislation proposed by the parliamentary group of PS/Açores is intended to increase savings in energy consumption and reduce the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere.

The government official stated that energy consumption represents an important fraction of the current expenses of regional and local administrations, adding that the legislation under discussion at the Economy Commission allows the Government and regional municipalities to have a better knowledge of their energy consumption and to take corrective measures regarding the operation of their services.
