Vasco Cordeiro believes in good solution for annual teaching application and amendment to three-year rule

The President of the Government expressed his belief in a compatible solution that reconciles the values and interests of students and teachers in the process of amending the Rules of the Teaching Application for Preschool, Basic Education and Secondary School in the Azores.

"The values and interests of teachers are very important in our educational system, but there is something that is above all this: the values and interests of students. It is because of them that we have an educational system," said Vasco Cordeiro. The President of the Government spoke at the plenary session taking place at the Legislative Assembly in Horta.

In the parliamentary debate, the President of the Government assured that these values are not, however, incompatible. Hence, he expressed his belief that it will be possible to find a good solution.

"As a matter of responsibility, we should only take the next step after assessing the regular and special applications," said Vasco Cordeiro. In this regard, the President of the Government ensured that the Regional Government has shown the coherence of its values and principles when deciding to revise this process in the year when these applications are about to be concluded.

Before the members of the Regional Parliament, the President of the Government also assured that the Regional Government is complying with the EU Directive on the integration of teachers hired on a temporary basis. The process should be concluded by this year.

"The Azores comply with this Directive and only those who do not know the document can say that the Azores not are complying. It does not say that we cannot hire temporarily, but rather that we should not overuse temporary hiring," said Vasco Cordeiro.

The President of the Government also reiterated that the Region will always need to resort to the hiring of teachers whenever there are teachers who are assigned to perform other duties.
