President of the Government invited to become honorary member of the Brotherhood of Milk

The newly created Brotherhood of Milk has decided to invite the President of the Government to become Honorary Confrere. The ceremony is scheduled for September 29, the first day of "Bodo de Leite."

A delegation of the brotherhood, led by Benjamim Massa, visited the Sant'Ana Palace to exchange greetings and formalise the invitation. The leader of the delegation provided the President of the Government with information on the creation of the Brotherhood of Milk, which is the only one in the Azores and the second in the country. Carlos César was also informed about the goals of this association.

Officially created in June 2011 with the support of the Village Council of Arrifes, the Brotherhood of Milk was founded by Unileite, São Miguel Young Farmers Association and Bom Pastor Agricultural Cooperative. The promotion of milk from the largest milk basin of São Miguel is the main goal of this brotherhood.

The costume to be worn by the members of the Brotherhood of Milk is inspired in the clothes worn by farmers in Arrifes. The cloak represents the way how farmers protected themselves from rain and cold in the pastures, with a cloak made of tarpaulin fabric. Accordingly, the brotherhood's costume is composed by a light brown cloak with a green hem (representing the pastures) and a felt hat of the same colour, similar to the ones used in ceremonial days.

Carlos César, who is a member of various brotherhoods dedicated to the promotion and preservation of regional products, traditions and culture, conveyed his satisfaction for including another regional product - perhaps the most important - in the list of products he vowed to promote, defend and honour.
