The President of the Government announced today that about 70 percent of the families residing in the neighbourhoods of Santa Maria airport already have their housing situation solved or are in the process of being solved, following the process of transferring these dwellings from the State to the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
 
"If we take as a reference the allotment phase, that is, once the conditions for starting this process of dialogue with families are reached, about 70 percent of the allotment process is already solved or about to be solved," said Vasco Cordeiro.
 
After a visit to Anjos Neighbourhood on the first day of the statutory visit to Santa Maria, the President of the Government stated that 77 families already have their case solved or in the process of being solved through the options that were made available to them - purchase of dwellings, lease with purchase option or simple lease.
 
These options, approved by the Council of the Government in 2016, allow families living in these four neighbourhoods "to manage this process based on their availability and interest," said Vasco Cordeiro, who was accompanied by the Vice-President of the Government, Sérgio Ávila.
 
"As part of this process launched by the Azorean Government in 2016, this is another commitment that is partially fulfilled or in the process of being implemented, as it also involves several components other than housing, including the revitalisation of the surrounding areas to be used by industry, trade or tourism," said the President of the Government.
 
In this process, the Azorean Government has privileged the right to housing of families residing in that area near Santa Maria airport, creating a mechanism of improvement that can go up to 75 percent of housing for the families that opt for the purchase.
