Municipalities must take decisions on waste management on São Miguel Island, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government said today that waste management is a responsibility of municipalities, which must make decisions about the process regarding the construction of a plant for recovery of waste by incineration on the island of São Miguel.
"Firstly, I believe this is already the second tender for the construction of an incinerator and I have to confess my surprise with the fact that this issue only arises now," said Vasco Cordeiro, who spoke to journalists.
After pointing out that this process "is not a chicken and egg situation," the President of the Government recalled that the issue of waste management is a responsibility of municipalities, which should urgently decide on the solution to adopt for the island of São Miguel.
"The Government of the Azores has nothing more to add on this matter than the framework established by previous governments on this issue," said Vasco Cordeiro.
"Decisions should be taken by those who have the responsibility to take them and, in this case, the responsibility lies with municipalities," said the President of the Government.
