Government of the Azores improves conditions for another 60 children in the municipality of Povoação
The President of the Government highlighted today the importance of the 800 thousand-Euro investment in the remodelling and expansion of the day nursery and kindergarten of Maria Isabel do Carmo Viveiros Foundation to better serve the 60 children who will attend these facilities and to support families in the municipality of Povoação.
"In fact, this investment is not only intended to provide this infrastructure with better conditions to serve these children, since it is also an investment in Povoação's families insofar as it allows them to have other conditions for their for their personal and professional fulfilment, knowing that their children are in good hands," said Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government spoke at the ceremony of laying the first stone of this work, revealing that the Government has already provided 12 new responses since the beginning of this term. These facilities have capacity to serve more than 700 children in Day nursery, Kindergarten and Free Time Occupation Centre throughout the Region.
"It is important to note that this investment in the area of children and youth is an inevitability, but rather a political choice" of the Government, assured Vasco Cordeiro. The President of the Government highlighted the importance of these investments to strengthen social and territorial cohesion on the nine islands of the archipelago.
"The fact is that we have opted in the Azores to make these investments in Childhood and Youth as well as in the support to the elderly. This is especially important since they contribute to social cohesion, allowing more families to have access to these services, but also to territorial cohesion insofar as these investments cover the nine islands of the Region," emphasised the President of the Government.
Vasco Cordeiro stressed that the social cohesion is reinforced with a set of measures implemented by the Government, such as the case of the Regional Family Allowance Supplement for Children and Youth, whose amount was increased by 15 percent this year, and the discounts for large families with two or more children attending day nurseries or at the care of nannies.
"These measures cover another component of this social support policy and they should be a source of pride for our Region, demonstrating that we are a Region rooted in solidarity," said Vasco Cordeiro.
