The Government of the Azores begins Wednesday a three-day visit to the island of Faial. Among other initiatives, Vasco Cordeiro will preside over the opening of Flamengos Day Centre and the expansion of the Botanical Garden, besides visiting various works and meet with representatives of civil society.

During this visit, the members of the Regional Government will be available to receive the Faial islanders who wish to pose their questions directly, an initiative intended to strengthen the proximity policy with the Azorean population.

On the first day of this visit to Faial, the President of the Government will open the new Flamengo Day Centre and visits the "International Azores Boutique" accommodation unit in Horta in the morning.

During the afternoon, Vasco Cordeiro will visit the works of the first phase of Feteira Intergenerational Building and the premises of APADIF - Association of Parents and Friends of Disabled People of Faial, followed by a meeting with the Mayor of Horta, José Leonardo Silva.

Even before the Government's meeting with the Island Council, which closes the programme for that day, the President of the Government receives, in audience, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Horta, Faial Sustainable Tourism Association, Pico Trade and Industry Association, São Jorge Business Centre, Horta Airport Group and the Pico Airport Group.

On the second day of the visit to Faial, Vasco Cordeiro visits the Horta Fish Market and presides over the signing ceremony of the contract for the construction and redevelopment of Fligueira agricultural road located within the Agricultural Planning Perimeter of Cedros/Salão. He will also visit during the morning the ongoing works of Horta Hospital and the construction of the Island Health Unit building, an overall investment of about seven million Euros.

In the early afternoon, the President of the Government presides over the awarding of the contract work for the rehabilitation of Quinta de São Lourenço Manor and Chapel, with an estimated budget of nearly 450 thousand Euros, which will cover the recovery of these 18th century buildings. The day will close with the meeting of the Council of the Government.

On Friday, Vasco Cordeiro chairs the opening ceremony of the expansion works of the Botanical Garden. It includes the new Orchid Garden of the Azores, with about 5,000 specimens, and the Seed Bank, where about 12 million of seeds are already preserved.

In addition to these initiatives, the programme of the visit to Faial also includes meetings between the members of the Government and several entities representing the most varied sectors of the island as well as visits to ongoing projects and the presentation of new investments.

The presentation of the preliminary study for the reprofiling of the Monte da Guia branch road section, the signing of the contract work for the rehabilitation and improvement of the regional road section between Ribeira do Cabo and Largo Jaime de Melo and the presentation of the intervention in Reduto da Patrulha are some of the planned initiatives.

Moreover, the programme of the visit includes, among other events, the delivery of equipment for the cleaning and maintenance of the hydrographic network in the context of the "My Stream" project, the signing of contracts to support housing rehabilitation and a simulation of the Condor Radar.
