Childhood and Youth areas to receive over 30 million Euros for investment in infrastructures, says Vasco Cordeiro

The President of the Government announced today that the current legislative period will end with a public investment over 30 million Euros in infrastructures for Childhood and Youth, a strategic investment in social support that has been achieved in a challenging environment.

"This investment in Childhood and Youth is extremely relevant, not just for the amount allocated but for the fact that it was carried out in a specific context and at a time when there were several requests for other priorities," said Vasco Cordeiro. The President of the Government spoke at the ceremony of laying the first stone of the rehabilitation works of the building where "O Castelinho" day nursery is installed, which represents an investment of about 2.2 million Euros.

"This has been our choice in the exercise of our Autonomy," said the President of the Government. He emphasised that this strategic investment includes a series of other measures, such as the 15-percent increase in the amount allocated under the Regional Family Allowance Supplement, covering nearly 36 thousand children and young people, or the discounts for large families with children attending daycare and kindergartens or at the care of nannies.

The investments in infrastructures and the social measures implemented embody the values of social and territorial cohesion throughout the Region, allowing more families to benefit from these infrastructures and, simultaneously, improving the conditions for the maintenance of families and their professional fulfilment, stressed Vasco Cordeiro.

During the launching ceremony of this work, which will serve more than 200 children in daycare, kindergarten and free-time activity centre, Vasco Cordeiro stressed that this investment represents the fulfilment of a commitment and the compliance with a work scheduled in the Regional Public Works Charter. But, above all, it represents the fulfilment of a commitment to the future by investing in those who are the future of the Azores.

In his speech, Vasco Cordeiro stressed that the fulfilment of the commitments made by the Government of the Azores on Faial Island covers various areas: the ongoing works in Horta Slaughterhouse; the new Fire Station, whose project is in the final phase and the respective tender is expected to be launched soon; the second phase of the redevelopment of Horta bay, whose public tender will be launched by the end of next week; and the Multipurpose Building in Feteira, which is at the implementation phase with the partnership of Horta City Hall.
