Press release from the Regional Health Authority

The Regional Health Authority reports that five positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Region, according to testing conducted by the Specialised Service of Epidemiology and Molecular Biology of the Santo Espírito Hospital on the Island of Terceira.

Two cases were detected on the island of Terceira, two on the island of Faial and one on the island of São Miguel.

Currently, all patients are clinically stable and in home confinement.

On the island of Terceira, the two identified cases correspond to males aged between 25 and 29.

The first case had contact with two positive cases registered on the island, while the second was on the same flight as the group of people who travelled to Dubai on the cruise ship MSC Belissima between March 7 and 14.

The confirmed cases on the island of Faial Island correspond to a female, aged 67, and a male, aged 38 years, both with history of recent travel to the city of Porto.

The case confirmed on the island of São Miguel Island is a female, aged 30, who was also on the said cruise to Dubai.

As of now, 22 positive cases for infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been identified in the Region, six on Terceira Island, three on Faial Island, seven on São Jorge Island, five on São Miguel Island and one on Pico Island.

The information on the COVID-19 pandemic will be updated this afternoon at 4 pm, through a press conference to be held at the headquarters of the Regional Health Secretariat at Solar dos Remédios in Angra do Heroísmo.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
