Azorean bathing waters under public consultation until January 31

The list of coastal bathing waters to be identified in the Azores in 2018 is under public consultation until January 31 next year, according to the regional legislation. Citizens will have the opportunity to express their views on the proposal by submitting their opinions, suggestions and comments.

For the Regional Director for Sea Affairs, "the identification of bathing water is a guarantee of quality for beach users."

According to Filipe Porteiro, the inclusion of new bathing waters in the official list must be based "on the solid and consistent commitment to maintain the conditions of use of these bathing waters, namely in terms of health and safety of beach users."

After the technical assessment of all contributions, the identification of coastal bathing waters for 2018 shall be published in the Official Journal of the Region in conjunction with the duration of the bathing season stipulated for each beach area.

Promoted by the Regional Secretariat for the Sea, Science and Technology, through the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs, this public consultation is accessible on its website at www.aguasbalneares.azores.gov.pt until January 31.

In order to participate in the public consultation on bathing waters, citizens may submit their contribution to the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs at Rua Cônsul Dabney, Colónia Alemã, Apartado 140, 9900-014 or, preferably, to the email [email protected].
