Government of the Azores supports hiring of qualified coaches to consolidate Azorean sport nationally and internationally

The Regional Government of the Azores published today in the Official Journal the ordinance regulating the allocation of support to sports clubs for hiring qualified coaches.

The hiring of these technicians will ensure the training and competition of athletes benefiting from national and high performance statute or teams belonging to clubs participating in major national competitions or in international events.

According to ordinance, "the relevant results achieved by athletes and clubs involved in high performance project as well as by athletes participating in national and international competitions requires an ongoing investment in human resources, particularly in the hiring of qualified coaches by clubs to support the organisation and training of teams and athletes,"

"The dedication to training and the results achieved in national and international competitions are a benchmark for the Region and to young people, in particular, contributing to the importance of sport as an essential component in the training of citizens and the strengthening of regional identity."

The ordinance issued by the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture also recalls the strategic goals of the XI Regional Government Programme: "the consolidation of the position of reference of Azorean sport in the national and international context as well as the positive differentiation for work and results of excellence - Olympic Games/Paralympic Games."

The ordinance, which takes effect Tuesday, July 19, states that the support provided has a duration of one year and may cover a maximum of 15 teams and or clubs; the number of coaches per club stands at one per sport or sex.
